Beyond cable: best cable alternatives for your apartment

Partager:

Increasingly, tenants are making the choice to move away from traditional television and cable services. Instead, our community members often opt for higher bandwidth internet and watch ‘TV’ by streaming.  If you want to cut cable, Hazelview has rounded up a few alternative possibilities below.

Boxee Box

This service lets you stream TV and the internet directly to your TV screen. There’s a one-time cost for Boxee that gives you access to live TV, built-in Apps, Boxee TV, QWERTY Remote, antenna and power supply.  Boxee comes with a number of apps that lets you easily access websites in the best format for your TV. Some of the most popular apps include: Funny or Die, Google Chrome, tumblr, College Humor, MTV, Digg and TED.  For sports fans, there’s a great function that allows users to stream live games. In addition to Boxee’s great QWERTY keyboard remote, users can also use their iPhone or Android to control what they watch. Be sure to check the website to see if the service is available in your area.

Netflix Canada
One of the first internet television networks, Netflix Canada offers original series as well as cable TV shows and movies to their users. For the cost of $7.99 a month, members can watch unlimited programming with any internet-connected screen. Watch from your tablet, your laptop, PC or even your TV to stream instantly from Netflix. This spring, the network released its first original series, House of Cards. Instead of waiting week-to-week for episodes, the show was released as a full series at once, a choice that really hit home with on-demand viewers. Netflix is great for those who like to stockpile episodes of a TV show before committing to watching. Netflix will also be the home of Arrested Development, the returning cult-classic comedy series. The 15 new episodes will be launched May 26, 2013.

Apple TV Canada

For any Apple junkies, Apple TV is a device that allows you to play content from iTunes, Netflix and YouTube on your widescreen in HD. It’s also a great way to share movies, TV shows and photos from an iPad, iPhone or iTouch using AirPlay. Installation of this service is very easy – order an Apple TV unit from Apple and then plug into a power source and to your TV using an HDMI cable. You’ll also need a wireless network to connect to the internet. Apple TV can be controlled with the Apple device of your choice.  Best of all, this device has a one-time cost of $109. But be warned, this service is only compatible with HD TVs and it’s easy to go crazy buying movies or series on iTunes.
