How to Make Pet Food

Partager:

Your pet can thrive eating homemade food like you do. If you're up for whipping up something special for him or her, Hazelview Properties has a few ideas for how to make pet food that’s delicious, nutritious and cheaper than store-bought.

Use Meat and Other Animal Products

When it comes to making a balanced meal for your pet, you should always make sure that at least half of their diet is meat. Try to use lean meat as much as possible, or dark, fatty meat if your dog or cat is very active.  You can use eggs and fish as well, just make sure to remove the bones.

Use Veggies and Fruit

Just like humans, your pets will benefit from certain fruits and veggies. Mix together things such as potatoes, beans and squash -- a great mix for energy! Just make sure everything is cooked, otherwise your pet might not be able to digest everything. You can also use a variety of fruits, including apples and blueberries, which are packed with antioxidants. And if you’re not sure about something, just ask your vet!

Recipe: Dog’s Breath Biscuits

Need to get rid of your dog’s bad breath? Then give these homemade Dog’s Breath Biscuits a try. To make this delicious treat, start by mixing the following items in a bowl: whole wheat flour, all purpose flour, rolled oats, cornmeal, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Set that aside and mix eggs, butter and peanut butter in a different bowl. Now mix everything together and add in fresh parsley and mint. These two ingredients are key for fighting bad breath! Divide the mixture in half and refrigerate for an hour. While the oven heats up to 325F, place the dough on parchment paper and roll it out. Make cute shapes using a bone-shaped cookie cutter and bake for 40 minutes.

Recipe: Fresh Veggies and Ground Turkey

Your pets will love this recipe -- especially your pup! To make this yummy Veggie and Ground Turkey dish, you’re going to need some ground turkey, veggies, rice and fat. First, cook some rice and set it aside. Place some olive oil in a pan and fry the ground turkey until golden brown. Now add in a bunch of veggies. We recommend using carrots, zucchini and spinach. Add the cooked rice. Mix everything together and cook for 5 minutes. Make sure the dish has completely cooled before you serve it to your dog.

Your pet will love their new homemade meals! Hazelview hopes you find these suggestions helpful and start to make your own pet food.
