How to show your pets you love them -- without spoiling them

Partager:

We love our pets and our pets love us. Our furry friends enhance our lives and our well being and ask for so little in return. All they need is love. Hazelview Properties has some tips for how to show your pets you love them -- without spoiling them. Treats are great as a reward, but they shouldn’t be a substitute for love and affection.

Petting/Massage

The simplest way to show your pets love is to pet them. Depending on your pet’s personality, they may even appreciate a massage every now and then. This should be done when they are already calm and relaxed. Begin petting as usual. Add some brisk strokes to your dog or cat’s hip and shoulder areas. Their reaction will let you know if they like the level of touch. Start off light and loving. Older pets may love a gentle, kneading motion around their joint areas.

Long Walks

This one is mostly for dogs, but some cats can learn to like going for walks on a leash, too. If you’re pal has been particularly good, it’s time to break out of their regular walk routine and head somewhere special. Maybe that’s a river, a field or a forest. Let them get out there and sniff some new stuff!

Grooming

This can be as simple as brushing away their excess fur. Why wait for your kitty to cough up their own hairballs? A good brushing is a great way to bond. Every once in a while, a trip to the groomer may be required. Your pet probably won’t like the process itself, but most pets like the feeling of being clean afterwards.

Play Time

Make time to play with your pet everyday. They need the exercise and the one-on-one attention. You will love this time as much as they do. This is the good stuff.

Praise Time

Praise is essential to keeping your pup happy. Cats probably like it too, they just don’t always like to give us the satisfaction of showing it. Tell them they're good, in the tone of voice they know is reserved for praise. You can even throw in a treat or two.

Hazelview hopes these pet care tips help you and your pets feel the love.
