There is no better way to see the beautiful city of Montreal than on a bike. There are plenty of gorgeous bike paths for cyclists of all skill levels to enjoy. Today Hazelview Properties has a breakdown of cycling in Montreal, including popular paths, safety tips and bicycle tours and shops.

Cycling in Montreal

Montreal is one of the top bicycle-friendly cities in the world. There are hundreds of kilometers of bike lanes, paths and trails. There is also the self-serve Bixi bike rental system with over 5,000 bikes available to people in Montreal. Hazelview Properties’ 345 rue de la Gauchetiere Community is labeled as a Biker’s Paradise, Rider’s Paradise and Walker’s Paradise by walkscore.com. The area surrounding our apartment has great bike lanes and is generally flat, making it perfect for getting around on a bicycle.

Best Bike Routes

Great biking routes and paths around the city include:

Parc du Mont-Royal: This path is great for both cyclists and walkers. Enjoy views of one of Montreal’s largest green spaces. You’ll also see stunning views of the downtown core. This route is perfect for beginner to intermediate cyclists and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.

The Islands: Ride from Old Montreal to Habitat 67 and then cruise historical bridges until you reach Notre-Dame and St. Helen’s Islands in the St. Lawrence River. This route takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Lachine Canal: Enjoy one of the city’s oldest bike paths on the Lachine Canal route. This bike route starts near the Old Port of Montreal and takes you along the river and past the famous Lachine Canal. This trip will take you approximately two hours.

Voie Maritime: For those looking for a half-day biking trip try the Voie Maritime route. Start on Nuns’ Island and take the St. Lawrence Seaway bike path until you reach Sainte-Catherine Park.

Safety First:

Safety should be a top priority when cycling around the city. It’s important for all riders to use their bicycle in a considerate way and follow the rules of the road. It’s essential that cyclists wear helmets at all times and respect and follow the road signs, traffic lights and rules of the road.
