The best things to buy antique or vintage

Partager:

Shopping for antiques is a bit of an art. It should never be confused with overloading your home with things that are antiquated. The lure of the luxuries from yesteryear can be strong, but just because something is old, doesn’t mean it’s good. Hazelview Properties wants to help you find the best things to buy antique or vintage.

Wooden Furniture

Back in the day, furniture was made from wood. Real wood. Solid wood. As long as you don’t have your heart set on a Louis XIV armoire, you can find some great solid wood antique furniture that will last another lifetime -- at prices that can rival the cost of buying particle board and lacquer today. You won’t be passing on that IKEA wardrobe to your grandchildren. The furniture you find doesn’t have to be perfect. You can replace knobs and hardware, refinish it, or even repaint it to give it a modern-retro look.

Art

Art is subjective. You like what you like and hate what you hate. When you shop for antique art, don’t expect to pick up any paintings from famous artists at rock bottom prices. If you look carefully, you can expect to find real, hand painted works from talented nobodies, where you can see and feel the brush strokes, for about the same price as a poster or print of a famous work.

Silverware

You may not be able to find a complete set in one spot, but with a bit of digging you can pull together a charming assortment of real silverware pieces. Think of them less like a matching set, and more like individual pieces of art. You may have to spend some time removing the tarnish, so be sure to use a non-toxic polish.

Glass

It’s easy to find cheap glass, today. But it can be a bit bland. If you’re looking for something a little more unique, it’s time to go antique! You may even discover a new hobby, as the antique glass rabbit hole goes pretty deep.

China

Whether you’re looking for beautiful pieces to display in your china cabinet, or you just want to be prepared in case the Queen drops by for tea, antique china never goes out of fashion and its value only tends to increase.

If antiques are what you’re after, Hazelview hopes these suggestions help you hunt down some fabulous finds for your home.
