The renter's guide to getting around Kitchener-Waterloo

Partager:

Getting around Kitchener without a car is easy thanks to the city’s great public transit system, and community car and bike share options. Kitchener also has a good Walk Score, meaning that most errands can be accomplished either on foot, bike or using public transportation. Hazelview Properties’ 50, 66 and 80 Mooregate Crescent Apartments are located in the heart of Victoria Hills, just steps away from Victoria Park and Kitchener Lake.

Grand River Transit

Grand River Transit (GRT) is the public transport operator for the regions of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. There is express bus service between these three areas, known as the iXpress, which comes every ten-minutes. The route begins at Conestoga Mall and stops at the University of Waterloo, uptown Waterloo, Downtown Kitchener, Fairview Park Mall, Cambridge Centre Mall and Downtown Galt. The bus fare is three dollars and transfers are good for 90 minutes. Detailed maps of all routes in Kitchener and Waterloo are available for free on the Grand River Transit website or app. Students of University of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier only need to show their university-issued student ID card (as long as the expiry has not passed) for free bus service. The Westmount/Victoria bus stop is only a two-minute walk from Hazelview’s 50 Mooregate Crescent Apartments in Kitchener.

Car Sharing

Community CarShare is a non-profit car sharing co-operative that makes vehicles available to members on a self-serve, pay-per-use basis. This car-sharing program operates a fleet of 55 vehicles available in Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, Guelph and London. Reduce your carbon footprint and save money on transportation by using a car only when you need it. Community CarShare’s Kitchener office is only a 20-minute transit ride from Hazelview’s 80 Mooregate Crescent Apartments.

Bike Sharing

Cycling is an easy and active way to get around the Kitchener-Waterloo area. You can ride your bike anywhere in the Waterloo region and use the city’s Bus’n’Bike Program that combines cycling and the GRT’s rack-equipped buses to make longer rides easier. Don’t have a bike? That’s not a problem with the city’s Community Access Bikeshare (CAB) Program. This initiative provides affordable public access to bicycles, allowing members to access the CAB bicycles at convenient locations throughout the city to get to a meeting, run errands, meet friends or just to get around. Get access to the Community Access Bikeshare program at the Charles Street Bus Terminal, which is a 30-minute walk from Hazelview Properties’ 66 Mooregate Crescent Apartments.

Getting around Kitchener is easy with the Grand River Transit system, community car and bike sharing programs and the city’s other accessible means of transportation.
