Your guide to Alta Vista's parks

Partager:

Spend the day exploring some of Alta Vista’s many parks and trails. Hazelview Properties’ 2861 & 2851 Baycrest Apartments are located in the heart of Ottawa’s Alta Vista neighbourhood, within walking distance of a number of local parks. Today we will take a look at a few convenient nearby parks including Brewer Park, Applewood Park, Orlando Park and Canterbury Park.

Applewood Park

Applewood Park is located in the heart of Ottawa’s Alta Vista neighbourhood and serves as the heart of the community for many families in the area. This park is very family-friendly and you will often see parents socializing while the little ones are off playing in a safe environment. Applewood Park features a skating rink for the winter months, two play structures (one wood and one metal), picnic tables, benches and a short trail, which is perfect for walking or running. Applewood Park is a 30-minute walk from 2861 Baycrest Drive.

Orlando Park

Orlando Park is only a ten-minute walk from Baycrest Drive Apartments and features a beautiful piece of green parkland in the south end of the city. This Alta Vista Park features an off-leash dog area, soccer and baseball fields, a short trail, as well as a modern children’s playground. Over 300 new trees have been planted in the past two years, improving upon the park’s already lush green landscape. The Pinegrove Trail is only a 20-minute bike ride away from Orlando Park, and is perfect for people who want to experience a longer and slightly more challenging trail than the one at Orlando Park.

Brewer Park

Brewer Park is one of Ottawa’s largest and most popular parks, located on the north bank of the Rideau River at Bronson Avenue. While not directly located in the Alta Vista neighbourhood, Brewer Park is less than a 25-minute transit ride from  2851 Baycrest Drive. This large park features scenic green spaces, a world-class speed skating oval, two hockey rinks, Canada’s largest legal graffiti wall, three baseball diamonds, numerous soccer fields, winding biking and walking paths, multiple play structures and a mini waterpark. This park offers fun recreational activities for all seasons and all ages. The park is also home to a number of festivals and events, such as the internationally renowned Annual House of Paint Hip Hop Festival in the summer.

Canterbury Park

Canterbury Park is a local Alta Vista park that is less than a 35-minute walk from 2851 Baycrest Drive. This park features a modern play area and playground, pool, tennis court, baseball diamond and ample manicured green space perfect for recreational soccer. Off-leash dogs are allowed in certain areas of the park and there is a designated space for them north of Canterbury Park’s baseball diamond. The Canterbury Recreation Complex is located less than a two-minute walk from the park’s main entrance and boasts an NHL sized ice rink, 25-metre swimming pool and a variety of aquatic and fitness programs.

Ottawa’s Alta Vista neighbourhood is surrounded by lush green spaces and beautiful parks perfect for the whole family. Whether you are looking to go for a quiet bike ride, have a healthy play date with the kids or simply relax and enjoy nature, these parks are perfect for everyone.
