3 things to consider when buying or moving furniture

Share:

Before moving furniture into an apartment there are a few considerations that should be taken into account. Start off by assessing your apartment to make sure the fit is right and determine whether or not you need help moving. Hazelview Properties Calgary apartments at 123 10th Avenue South West and 1010 First Street South West are located in some of the city’s most vibrant areas including the Beltline District and lively Forest Lawn area.

Assess the Space

Before buying any furniture it is very important that you calculate the amount of space you have in each room of the apartment. Once measurements are taken, sketch out a floor plan of the apartment and where you want everything to go. When picking pieces, remember how much space you have and bring the floor plan sketch along with your apartment’s measurements. Be sure to also factor in the height of your ceilings, shapes of any windows and the amount of light in the room. For example, a dark and wide armoire in a small room can make the room feel much smaller and dimmer. Think about furniture placement to optimize light and space. BoConcept offers a wide variety of contemporary furniture and accessories for the home and is only a ten-minute walk from Hazelview’s 123 10th Avenue South West apartments in Calgary.

Getting Into the Building

Once you have your apartment’s measurements and are confident in finding a piece of furniture that will gel with your home, it’s now time to book the elevator and take its measurements. It’s important that you book the elevator in advance to ensure you aren’t competing with another incoming (or outgoing) resident. Typically, elevator bookings are for a relatively short window of time so it’s a good idea to move smaller items ahead of time, like artwork, suitcases, plants, etc. Make sure to measure the height and width of the elevator door and the interior height, width and depth. If you are moving into a walk-up, the more help you have the better. Measure large items such as couches to ensure they’ll be able to take the corners of the stairwell and fit through the door.

Do You Need help?

No one wants to throw his or her back out moving furniture so think about how your furniture will be moved into your apartment before purchasing. You can recruit your own personal army of friends and family to help you move or hire a moving company with professionals to help get you situated. For larger and more valuable furniture items a moving company might be your best option, as they have well-trained staff and the necessary equipment to keep your goods intact. The Calgary Movers are only a two-minute drive from Hazelview Properties 1010 First Street South West apartments and offer a convenient and affordable moving service. If you are asking your friends and family for help be sure to take the necessary safety precautions in order to avoid injury. Consider using heavy-duty gloves, steel toe boots and a back support belt for heavy lifting.
