With the Civic Holiday fast approaching, Hazelview has pulled together a few fun and family-friendly activities in the Ottawa area. The Civic Holiday is celebrated in most of Canada on the first Monday in August. Ottawa is rocking with festivals and events during this long weekend, so let’s take a look at some of your options.

International Busker Festival
Ottawa’s annual International Busker Festival descends on the Sparks Street Mall in downtown Ottawa for all three days of the Civic Holiday Weekend. This Busker Festival features daily performances by acrobats, contortionists, musicians, comedians, magicians, jugglers, and other exciting acts from across Canada and worldwide. The International Busker Festival is a free festival where families can enjoy exciting performances by amazing performers. Buskerfest runs from July 31st until August 4th from 11am until 11pm. Hazelview’s Ottawa community at 135 York Street is only a ten-minute transit ride from the Sparks Street Mall where the Busker Festival is taking place.

Lumiere Festival
The Lumiere Festival has been showcasing art, magic and light for over ten-years in the Ottawa area. The festival takes place from July 31st until August 16th in New Edinburgh Park, only a 20-minute walk from Hazelview’s 145 York Street community in Ottawa. You can enjoy live performances, film installations, face painting, food vendors, lantern-making workshops and more. This is the perfect family-friendly event for the Civic Holiday as there is something for everyone.

Be a Tourist
Spend your Civic Holiday Long Weekend being a tourist in your own city. Ottawa is full of amazing scenes, sights and sounds that deserve to be explored. Parliament Hill is the seat of Canada’s federal government and the setting for national celebrations. This historic site is the most visited Ottawa attraction and is a must-see. There are a variety of cultural attractions, museums and galleries located in the heart of Ottawa. Whether it’s the stunning National Gallery of Canada, or the dramatic and historic Canadian War Museum, these are fantastic places to explore during your long weekend.

After taking in some Canadian culture at local galleries and museums, take a walk through ByWard Market and enjoy the farmers market, artisan vendors, delicious surrounding restaurants and bustling atmosphere. ByWard market is only a ten-minute walk from Hazelview’s 146 Stewart Street community in Ottawa. Finally, end your tourist tour of your city at the stunning Rideau Canal, a historic waterway filled with activity.
