Give disc golf a try this summer

Share:

Looking to try a fun, active and social new sport this summer? Today Hazelview Properties has pulled together a brief introduction to the game of disc golf, including what it is, why you should play and where you can play near our 470 Scenic Drive Community in London.

What is disc golf?

Disc golf is a social sport that is played much like traditional golf, but with a Frisbee instead of a ball and clubs. The sport was formalized in the 1970s, with the goal of completing each hole in the fewest strokes (or throws) possible. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target, which is the “hole.” As a player progresses down the fairways, he or she must make each consecutive throw from the spot where the previous throw has landed. The game is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities and is a great activity for family and friends.

Why should you play?

Disc golf is a fun, social and physical game that is a great way to meet people and improve your health and level of fitness. The game provides both upper and lower body conditioning, aerobic exercise and promotes a combination of physical and mental abilities. One of the greatest attributes of the game is also the expense, or lack thereof. A professional quality disc costs less than $15 and it only takes one for basic play.

Where to play

River’s Edge Disc Golf Course is a 27-hole course located in London, Ontario and is only a 20-minute walk from Hazelview’s 470 Scenic Drive Community. This course features a good mix of open and wooded holes, ranging from 150 to 600 yards, depending on the layout. In addition to River’s Edge Disc Golf Course, many city parks also have courses set up. Most are free to play and combine wooded and open terrains for great variety.

It’s fun and easy to learn how to play disc golf. This sport is perfect for people of all ages and abilities who are looking to get out and active this summer. For more information, visit us at timbercreekcommunities.com.
