Hearty meal ideas for vegans and vegetarians

Share:

A lot of people won't try eating vegetarian or vegan because they fear they'll be starving all the time, will become protein deficient, and will have to live off salads. This couldn't be further from the truth! There are countless vegan and vegetarian recipes for hearty meals that are just as filling and enjoyable as omnivore meals. Try these hearty vegan and vegetarian recipes.

Burrito or Burrito Bowl

When you're vegan or vegetarian and looking for something filling, healthy and hearty, you can't go wrong with a burrito or burrito bowl. It's a great way to pack in a ton of veggies, protein and carbohydrates. Try this hearty vegan burrito recipe that's loaded with black beans, corn, shredded lettuce, sundried tomato rice, guacamole, pico de gallo salsa, and vegan sour cream. Not everyone wants to load up on carbs, so a burrito bowl can be a great, lower-carb alternative. Check out this delicious, vegan and gluten free Cauliflower Rice Burrito Bowl recipe. It's loaded with flavourful riced cauliflower, seasoned black beans, grilled peppers and onions, and guacamole.

Cauliflower Alfredo Pasta

Is there anything more hearty and comforting than a big bowl of creamy pasta? We think not! Traditionally it's not the healthiest dinner option though. Luckily for you, food bloggers the world over have taken the case and developed tons of healthier takes on creamy pasta sauces. If you love Fettuccine Alfredo, you owe it to yourself to try its healthy cousin, Cauliflower Alfredo! It's the creamy white sauce you love, but loaded with pureed cauliflower for extra fiber, vitamins and minerals.  Here's a vegetarian recipe to try, and here's a vegan one.

Vegan Fish and Chips

You might be surprised to learn that you can veganize fish and chips! When you're craving something deep fried, crispy and savoury, this delicious vegan fish and chips recipe won't let you down. You'll be blown away by the convincing beer-battered deep fried tofu "fish" fillets served with crispy baked fries.

Chickpea Tuna Salad Sandwich

One of the easiest and most delicious things to veganize is a tuna salad sandwich because mashed chickpeas are a convincing stand in for canned tuna fish. If you're up to trying it, you don't need a recipe. Just mash some chickpeas in a bowl with a fork. Mix in your favourite tuna salad add ins like mayo, pickles, lemon juice, salt and pepper, and you've got a fabulous sandwich filling. If you want to make the flavour extra convincing, toss in some dulse flakes or kelp flakes for a fishier flavour without the fish. If you don't want to risk making a disappointing sandwich, try this recipe.

We hope you give one of these delicious vegan and vegetarian recipes a try! Hazelview hopes that they fill you up and crush your cravings.
