Our Favourite IKEA DIY Hacks

Share:

Sometimes we need a bit of inspiration when it comes to DIY projects. Hazelview Properties has a few amazing IKEA hacks that will save you money and make your home look even more beautiful and stylish.

Kitchen Island

Installing a kitchen island can be really expensive, but there’s a way around it. All you need is a shelf unit, two bamboo cutting boards and four castors. Just attach the castors to the bottom of the shelf, then glue the boards on the opposite side. It’s really that simple. If you want to add rails to the side to hold kitchen towels, you can do so. You’ll love this DIY kitchen island project especially if you have a small space. The finished product won’t take up a lot of space but will still serve its purpose.

Shoe Storage

When’s the last time you organized your shoes neatly together in one place? Build functional shoe storage with this Ikea shoe cabinet without spending a fortune. To begin your project you’re going to need cabinet faces (without the hardware), spray adhesive, spray mod podge, decorative paper, drawer knobs and some scissors. Use the spray adhesive to cover the cabinets and drape the decorative paper on top and cut off any extra paper. To protect the surface, and seal the paper, spray on some modge podge. Attach the hardware and put your shoe cabinet together!

Modern Terrarium

Add some life to your apartment with a terrarium. Not only are they stylish, but these mini greenhouses are low maintenance and easy to make. You’ll need potting soil, charcoal and a container to keep the plants in. An Ikea lantern works perfectly because it’s mostly glass and it’s only $7! Succulents, cacti and air plants are the best plants to use since they have similar light and water requirements.

Chic Vanity

When it comes to building your own vanity, you just need the right tools. For a very minimal look, use a EKBY Alex shelf from Ikea and a pair of wooden legs. Once you attach them together and to the wall, you can complete the look with a small bench or chair and a mirror. If you want to go a step further, add a chic throw on the bench to make it feel extra cozy.
