Start skating in Ottawa this winter

Share:

One of winter’s many perks comes when the ice freezes over and the skating season begins. Hazelview Properties’ 2880 and 2900 Carling Avenue Apartments in Ottawa are located close to a number of outdoor and indoor skating rinks. Enjoy this fun and family-friendly winter activity near the comfort of our Ottawa Communities.

Rideau Canal Skateway

The Rideau Canal Skateway is the world’s largest skating rink, running from the Parliament Building all the way down to Dows Lake. The skateway is 7.8 kilometers in total, with a number of change huts, snack stations and skate rental shops along the way. The Rideau Canal Skateway is less than a 40-minute transit ride from Hazelview Properties’ 2880 Carling Avenue Apartments in Ottawa. This is a Canadian tradition that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

McNabb Park

McNabb Park is a local Ottawa park that offers a variety of seasonal activities including an outdoor skating rink, wading pool, indoor skateboard park and playground. McNabb Park is a ten-minute drive from Hazelview’s 2900 Carling Avenue Community. There is also a local indoor skating rink, the McNabb Arena, located only a few minutes from the park.  This arena provides public skating times, ice hockey programs as well as leagues and pickup hockey. Arena amenities include changing rooms, a snack bar, regular maintenance and staff supervision.

Centrepointe

Centrepointe Park Rink is a 15-minute transit ride from 2880 Carling Avenue and offers a quiet local skating rink. This is one of the few non-hockey outdoor rinks in the city, making it a great place for children and others learning how to skate. There is a heated change room on-site and both supervised and non-supervised hours for skating.

Tanglewood

For weekend pickup hockey games, Tanglewood outdoor rink is a great local option. This large rink has great ice conditions and features high boards that are great for hockey. The rink offers very basic amenities but is a great place to practice and play hockey in a friendly environment. The Tanglewood skating rink is a ten-minute drive from Hazelview’s 2900 Carling Avenue Community in Ottawa.

Bundle up, grab your skates and a thermos of your favourite warm beverage, and enjoy some skating in beautiful and scenic Ottawa.
